Lessons

Most teachers also work with their pupils in a lying down position on a padded table, to encourage the release of muscular tension, such as in the shoulders and hips. The pupil will be asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to remove their shoes. Initially the teacher will look at the pupil's way of moving in an ordinary, everyday activity, such as sitting down and standing up.

The teacher will place her hands on the pupil and use verbal instructions to guide them to a better co-ordination of the neck, head and back. The pupil will be encouraged to develop an awareness of themselves and their habitual tendencies which will also allow them to release unnecessary tension.

Most teachers also work with their pupils on a treatment table to encourage the release of muscular tension, such as in the shoulders and hips. This gives the pupil the experience of having less strain and pressure on their joints without having to work against gravity whilst standing. After several lessons, more specific movements can be explored, depending on the pupil's needs. These can include bending, walking, writing, carrying an item, playing an instrument etc.
