About Cathie Kaye BA(Hons), Dip. LAMDA, MSTAT
Having trained as a Musical Director at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) Cathie successfully pursued a career in the theatre. Working in offices between musical engagements, it was her work with computers that caused her to develop Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). This, in turn, was aggravated further by playing the piano. The pain prevented her from working in office jobs and, eventually, her work as a Musical Director was also greatly affected.
Cathie has always been intrigued by the Alexander Technique, having had lessons at LAMDA. It was only when she resumed them again that she realised how beneficial it could be. It made sense to her that it was the way she was holding herself whilst typing and playing the piano that was causing the problems. She also began to see how other people around her were being affected by their everyday 'bad use'.
Cathie decided to enrol on the three year training course at the Constructive Teaching Centre in Holland Park to enable her to go further with the Technique and also be able to pass it on to others. She hasn't looked back since... and when she does, there's no more back or neck pain!
